The Yacht Club is a Deluxe Resort that is themed after the seaside New England of the late 1800s. It has a nautical feel complete with hardwood floors and brass accents and an amazing clean scent when you walk through the doors. One of the best reasons to stay at the Yacht Club is LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION. The Yacht Club is within walking distance to Hollywood Studios and Epcot. If you don’t feel like walking, you can access both parks via a short boat ride. Plus, you can walk to Epcot's international gateway to take the skyliner over to Hollywood Studios ...

Celebrating Mickey's 90th in Disneyland

I took my first visit to Disneyland when I was only one.  I visited most years with either my parents or my grandparents.  I went there almost every year until 2016 when I became an Annual Passholder at Disney World.  For spring break this year, I decided it was time to go back to my Disney roots and take the trip out to California. For me, California is a quick two hour direct flight, preferably into the Orange County Airport.  Once our plane landed, It took us less than an hour to check in to the hotel and get on our first ride at Disneyland.  The hotel we stayed at is located directly across the street from the entrance. It took five minutes to walk from our hotel room door to the entrance of Disneyland.  A trip to the Disneyland Resort can be incredibly convenient since both parks and Downtown Disney are all within walking distance of each other and many hotels. The moment you step onto Main Street U.S.A. you can sense Walt’s Disney magic eve...

Coming to Disney Parks in 2019

2019 is going to be a huge year for Disney on both coasts. The next twelve months will bring with it brand new entertainment, new restaurants, a couple new hotels in Florida, Mickey Mouse’s first-ever ride, and Star Wars: Galaxy Edge will make its debut in California this summer and in Florida in the fall. Star Wars: Galaxy Edge There has been a lot of anticipation for this Star Wars-themed land. The 14-acre land will open at Disneyland this summer, and it will make its debut in Florida later this year. Each land will have two attractions: Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run and Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance. This is the first time that Disney has duplicated the exact same land in two locations. Themed shopping, character interactions and a cantina bar will round out your visit to the Outer Rim’s most mysterious planet, Batuu. Visit Galaxy Edge at Disney Hollywood Studios in Florida and at Disney California Adventure in California. IllumiNations: Reflections on Earth Illu...

Walt Disney World's Skyliner

If you look in the sky while you’re at Disney World, you might notice some new construction. Last year, WDW announced that they were building Disney’s new Skyliner. This is a gondola system that will connect Epcot, Hollywood Studios, Pop Century Resort/Art of Animation Resort, Caribbean Beach Resort, and Disney’s new Riviera Resort. Currently, it is scheduled to open in late Spring or early Summer of 2019. This will put it ahead of the opening of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disney’s Hollywood Studios and the new Ratatouille ride at Epcot, which are scheduled for late 2019. The first gondolas were spotted on property back in June which is a promising step forward. This new system has an estimated capacity of between 4,000 and 5,000 passengers per hour per direction, making it one of the highest capacity gondola systems in the world.  With a capacity that high, it will surely decrease wait times for buses going in those directions - a win-win for all!  The cabins ...

2018 Epcot International Food and Wine Festival

Disney World’s 23rd Annual Food and Wine Festival will begin in less than two weeks! This festival brings 75 glorious days of food and wine from around the world in appetizer-sized portions for your eating pleasure. The festival will run from August 30th through November 12th. This is my favorite time of year to visit WDW. The fall months tend to be cooler and the crowds tend to be smaller. Since most kids are back in school, you can also catch a good deal on your favorite WDW property for your stay. In addition to enjoying your favorite dishes from every country in the World Showcase, there is also a Eat to the Beat Concert Series. These concerts are included in the price of your ticket to Epcot. Artists this year range from Air Supply to Boyz II Men to Sugar Ray. Pick up your favorite snacks and head over to the America Gardens Theatre at World Showcase for some of your favorite tunes. If that isn’t enough, Epcot offers cheese and beverage seminars and culinary demonstrati...

Top 10 Things to Buy Before Your Walt Disney World Vacation

Planning every detail of your Disney World vacation can be overwhelming if not left to your On the Road Travel agent; however, your travel agent can’t pack for you. There are a few important items you may want to consider purchasing before your vacation: Trip insurance--Travelers have differing opinions on this one. If you are planning to travel to Orlando during hurricane season, you may want to consider purchasing insurance. Just last year, Hurricane Irma closed Disney World for a day and canceled many commercial flights. Good walking shoes--You will walk 5-7 miles on an average day at Disney. Flip flops will not cut it. It is absolutely necessary that everyone in your travel party has good walking shoes and possibly band-aids for potential blisters. Gum -- If you are a gum chewer, you will need to bring this item in with you. It is not sold anywhere in the parks. Sunscreen -- No matter what time of year you visit the parks, you will be in the sun. It’s better to prevent the...

Tips for Dining Plan Snack Credits

I’m the type of traveler that likes to have everything paid for before I get there. I try to make it all-inclusive as much as possible. Therefore, we usually purchase the Disney Dining Plan as part of our vacation to Walt Disney World. We keep it simple and just get the Quick Service plan. This means that we aren’t tied down to several reservations at sit-down restaurants. As of 2018, this plan comes with two quick service meals and two snack credits. If you plan the snacks correctly, they will fill you up just like a meal! Some of our favorites include: Mickey Mouse Ice Cream Bar Churro Sweet Bread (Kringla Bakeri, Norway, Epcot) Soft Pretzel (Germany, Epcot) Chocolate Covered Banana (Disney Studios) Kaki Gori (Flavored Ice Cone, Japan, Epcot) Minnie’s Strawberry Bar (many park locations) Caramel Ginger Ice Cream (China, Epcot) Shakes & Stuffed Pretzels (Animal Kingdom) Make-Your-Own Fudge Cookie, Marshmallow Treats and Gingerbread Cookies (Goofy’s Candy Co., Disney...

Meet Me Monday: Jen and Bill Rahn

It's a new year, and we're thrilled to announce that the On The Road Travel Team is growing once again! Please help us in welcoming Jen and Bill Rahn to our team! Jen is a high school English teacher and soccer coach with degrees from Metropolitan State University of Denver, Regis University, and Grand Canyon University. Bill is the manager of a nearby Dairy Queen. He graduated from the University of Northern Iowa. They live in Aurora, CO with their 5 year old son Eli. Well, his full name is Elias. He was, in fact, named after Walter Elias Disney! Growing up in Northern California, Jen took her first trip to Disneyland when she was only one year old. As she grew up, she took trips there once a year with her parents or her grandparents when they lived in Southern California. Even when she moved to Arkansas with her dad, they visited Disneyland on the move out there and then again on the move back to California. Bill is a native of Iowa and did not visit Disneyland unt...
