One Foot at a Time - Taking Care of Your Feet at Disney

On an average day at home or at work I walk about 5 miles according to the pedometer on my phone. At Disney, that number jumps to over 12 miles per day! With some planning and preparation, your feet can be ready. Footwear I prefer to wear sneakers for my park days, but that may not be the best option for all. The best advice I can give is to wear what you are used to. Personally, I would never wear cowboy boots, sandals or flip flops, but everyone has their own preference. Looking around I often see people wearing thin flip flops, high heels, Ugg boots or gladiator sandals and I cringe thinking of their walk to the bus or hotel at the end of the day. For sneakers I suggest a good pair of running shoes. Here in Denver, I like to visit a store called Runners Roost . The employees are specially trained experts in fitting you with the correct shoes for your feet. Plan to spend some time in the store trying on shoes and testing them out on the provided treadmill. Top 10 Things to Buy Before Your Walt Disney World Vacation

Planning every detail of your Disney World vacation can be overwhelming if not left to your On the Road Travel agent; however, your travel agent can’t pack for you. There are a few important items you may want to consider purchasing before your vacation: Trip insurance--Travelers have differing opinions on this one. If you are planning to travel to Orlando during hurricane season, you may want to consider purchasing insurance. Just last year, Hurricane Irma closed Disney World for a day and canceled many commercial flights. Good walking shoes--You will walk 5-7 miles on an average day at Disney. Flip flops will not cut it. It is absolutely necessary that everyone in your travel party has good walking shoes and possibly band-aids for potential blisters. Gum -- If you are a gum chewer, you will need to bring this item in with you. It is not sold anywhere in the parks. Sunscreen -- No matter what time of year you visit the parks, you will be in the sun. It’s better to prevent the...

Strolling Through Disney World

It is not unusual to walk ten miles each day at Disney World, so it almost goes without saying that when “doing Disney” with kids, a stroller is a MUST. Whether you should bring your own stroller or rent one is a question with a less clear answer. Let’s explore a few of the options out there: Bring your own: You can certainly bring your own stroller from home to Disney World. One major benefit to doing so is that it saves you a bit of money, and you’re familiar with how it functions. When you bring your own stroller, don’t forget that you’ll be responsible for transporting it to and from Orlando, including around the airport where you will likely have to gate check it. You will also have fold it up and carry it on to transportation while you're going to and from the parks. Rent from Disney: Photo from DisneyFanatic Disney offers stroller rentals in each of the parks. Disney offers single strollers for $15/ day, and double strollers for $31/day; multi day rentals are availab...

We love helping anyone experience the magic of Disney – but for first time visitors – there are some bits of magic that you need to know so you don’t miss out! Advanced Planning – We all know that a good vacation starts with planning, but a trip to Walt Disney World takes the planning up a notch. Disney has over 40 square miles of property in central Florida and it is full of activities for your vacation. It is no wonder that researching and narrowing down what you want to fit into your vacation is no small feat! There are several things to plan in advance but two things we want to highlight here are table service dining options and FASTPASS+ (aka Fast Passes). Have you ever made a dining reservation 6 months in advance?! Well, for your trip to Walt Disney World, reservations for table service open up 180 days in advance, and the most popular reservations fill up fast (see below for some more information on the famous character dining options)! There are many counter service ...

To Hop or Not to Hop...That is the Question

Park tickets are one of the biggest expenses of a Walt Disney World vacation, so it’s important to make the right decision. My hope in this post is to help give you a little background so you can make this tough choice with your On The Road Travel Agent. The first decision you have to make when taking a trip to Disney World is how many days you wish to spend at the parks. This really depends on the pace of your family and the kind of vacation you want to have. I’m a big park goer, so when we take a trip to Disney World, we typically visit a park every day, or at least 80% of the days we spend there, and the Park Hopper feature is well worth its cost for us. So first and foremost, you need to consider who will be in your traveling group and account for their interest and ability as a park goer. I’m usually the youngest in my group and I’m 23, and my parents are the oldest at 52, so we can generally keep going all day long. That very likely isn’t the case for your group. I know it se...
