One Foot at a Time - Taking Care of Your Feet at Disney

On an average day at home or at work I walk about 5 miles according to the pedometer on my phone. At Disney, that number jumps to over 12 miles per day! With some planning and preparation, your feet can be ready. Footwear I prefer to wear sneakers for my park days, but that may not be the best option for all. The best advice I can give is to wear what you are used to. Personally, I would never wear cowboy boots, sandals or flip flops, but everyone has their own preference. Looking around I often see people wearing thin flip flops, high heels, Ugg boots or gladiator sandals and I cringe thinking of their walk to the bus or hotel at the end of the day. For sneakers I suggest a good pair of running shoes. Here in Denver, I like to visit a store called Runners Roost . The employees are specially trained experts in fitting you with the correct shoes for your feet. Plan to spend some time in the store trying on shoes and testing them out on the provided treadmill. Another good sto...

East Coast-West Coast Rivalry

In the mid to late 90’s, a battle was raging on the hip hop scene between west coast based rapper Tupac Shakur and east coast based rapper The Notorious B.I.G. This rivalry has since faded in the hip hop world, but it remains in the world of Disney. Ask any Disney fan which park they prefer, Disneyland in California or Disney World in Orlando, and there will be a distinct favorite. For most people, the debate begins at the beginning of both parks. Disneyland opened on July 17, 1955. It is the only theme park designed and built under the direct supervision of Walt Disney. His apartment is still kept above the fire station. You can see the light in the window before you stroll down Main Street U.S.A. Magic Kingdom in Orlando opened on October 1, 1971. While Walt Disney was the brainchild of Disney World, he did not get to see the project through to completion due to his passing on December 15, 1966, during construction of the complex. East vs. West, Land vs World, is there a tr...

Meet Me Monday: Jen and Bill Rahn

It's a new year, and we're thrilled to announce that the On The Road Travel Team is growing once again! Please help us in welcoming Jen and Bill Rahn to our team! Jen is a high school English teacher and soccer coach with degrees from Metropolitan State University of Denver, Regis University, and Grand Canyon University. Bill is the manager of a nearby Dairy Queen. He graduated from the University of Northern Iowa. They live in Aurora, CO with their 5 year old son Eli. Well, his full name is Elias. He was, in fact, named after Walter Elias Disney! Growing up in Northern California, Jen took her first trip to Disneyland when she was only one year old. As she grew up, she took trips there once a year with her parents or her grandparents when they lived in Southern California. Even when she moved to Arkansas with her dad, they visited Disneyland on the move out there and then again on the move back to California. Bill is a native of Iowa and did not visit Disneyland unt...
