East Coast-West Coast Rivalry

In the mid to late 90’s, a battle was raging on the hip hop scene between west coast based rapper Tupac Shakur and east coast based rapper The Notorious B.I.G. This rivalry has since faded in the hip hop world, but it remains in the world of Disney.

Ask any Disney fan which park they prefer, Disneyland in California or Disney World in Orlando, and there will be a distinct favorite. For most people, the debate begins at the beginning of both parks. Disneyland opened on July 17, 1955. It is the only theme park designed and built under the direct supervision of Walt Disney. His apartment is still kept above the fire station. You can see the light in the window before you stroll down Main Street U.S.A. Magic Kingdom in Orlando opened on October 1, 1971. While Walt Disney was the brainchild of Disney World, he did not get to see the project through to completion due to his passing on December 15, 1966, during construction of the complex.

East vs. West, Land vs World, is there a true winner? Let’s take a look at the stats:

Disneyland Resort
Anaheim, California d.o.b. 1955
● 2 Theme Parks: Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure Park
● 0 Water Parks
● 3 Disney-owned on-site hotels

VS.

Walt Disney World
Orlando, Florida d.o.b. 1971
● 4 Theme Parks: Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Hollywood Studios, and Animal Kingdom
● 2 Water Parks: Typhoon Lagoon and Blizzard Beach
● 21 Disney-owned on-site hotels

The above plays out like a heavyweight fighter vs a lightweight when looking purely at the stats, but it is a fight many have Disneyland winning. There are hundreds of things that set the two parks apart. There are also numerous attractions that are shared between the parks. One could go into great detail of the pros and cons of both Disneyland and Disney World. A simple online search will net hundreds of results on this exact topic.

The truth is that the winner of the battle is up to the individual. Any Disney trip will be magical when planned out by an expert. But the best bet? Visit both parks with the help of your On the Road Travel agent and decide for yourself!

Gaston's Tavern Giant Cinnamon Rolls

Cinnamon rolls are a must for me at Christmas and this is one of my favorite recipes for look-alike Gaston’s Tavern Giant Cinnamon Rolls! I found it on Inside the Magic , so all recipe credit belongs to them, but I have copied it below with some of my commentary and photos of my step by step process. Homemade cinnamon rolls are always going to be a bit time consuming, but these only have to proof for 40 minutes total so it’s really not bad at all! First things first, here are the materials you’re going to need: Mixer (one with a dough hook will make your life much much easier) and bowl Rubber scrapers Rolling pin 2-3 saucepans Microwave safe bowls An area big enough to roll them out 2 metal sheet pans with edges Measuring cups Measuring spoons Medium sized bowl for filling Liquid measuring cup The nice thing about the recipe is it uses pretty basic ingredients that you likely already have at your house. I went to Aldi and bought nearly everything just to see and it was about $20. A...
