50s Prime Time Cafe

Updated 6/16/22
For the most up-to-date information about the phased reopening of the Walt Disney World Resort, please visit the  Walt Disney World Know Before You Go Guide.

The 50s Prime Time Cafe is located inside Disney’s Hollywood Studios theme park at Walt Disney World in Florida. This is a full service restaurant and provides a terrific, nostalgia themed overall experience but does NOT have characters present.

You may just feel like you have walked into Great Grandma’s house when you walk into this 50’s era, good old fashioned restaurant serving up comfort foods from Momma, who’s back in the kitchen!

At this time, lunch and dinners are being served from 10:45 AM to 3:55pm and 4:00pm is the start of dinner. Dinner hours vary around park closing. My favorite time to dine here currently, is just prior to park closing. When the nighttime spectaculars are in production, I prefer to dine here around 4:30 PM prior to night fall and in time to get a seat or spot for the show, such as Fantasmic or the Star Wars: Galactic Spectacular.

The 50s Prime Time Cafe offers a Fantasmic! Dining Package, which includes lunch or dinner and reserved, VIP seating for Fantasmic! The dining package includes one entree, an appetizer or dessert, and a nonalcoholic beverage. At time of publication, lunch and dinner are $51 per adult and $22 for children (age 3-9). Tax and gratuity are not included.

My favorite part of this restaurant is the theme! You can truly step back in time and enjoy black and white tv with your dinner with all the home cooking. From the vinyl chairs to the formica tables to the menu that includes Mom’s Old Fashioned Pot Roast and Aunt Liz’s Fried Chicken.

50s Prime Time Cafe is a full service, dining experience. The attire for this restaurant is park casual, but I would mind your manners---because the antics can be the BEST part of this experience. Elbows on the table? Didn’t clear your plate? Oh, the fun that might occur on your visit! I once saw a gentleman sent to stand in the corner of the restaurant for bad manners.

Dining reservations are required. This can be a perfect spot to take a break from the day of fun at Hollywood Studios! Let your On the Road Travel specialist take care of your party for this blast from the past reservation.

The Tune-In Lounge is next door and attached to the restaurant! If you’d like to sip on a cocktail or beverage that is from Dad’s Liquor Cabinet---this is the perfect place for drinks with blinking ice cubes, souvenir cups---for both the adults and the kids at heart. There are also fancy non-alcoholic drinks for the kiddos!

This is a great option for families and especially for multi generational groups! Grandparents LOVE the nostalgia of this location! The menu has something for everyone!

This location is within Hollywood Studios park, therefore, you must have a park entry ticket, to dine at this location. If you are park hopping (when that is indeed allowed). do allow yourself 90 minutes to get to your dining reservation---you do NOT want to be late! Bussing by Disney, Skyliner, uber, lyft---are all good options to get to Hollywood Studios!

50s Prime Time Cafe provides large servings of homemade, comfort foods. If you love that style of cooking, then this is a must do. When dining plans are in play--this one counts as 1 meal credit per person. At this moment, there are no dining plan credits to use. It is truly a fun experience for both food and atmosphere.

I have dined at this location with my family of 5. We were not very hungry, as we had snacked around Hollywood Studios, that day. We opted for onion rings to start and 1 entree to share--- “Sampling of Mom’s favorites” It included fried chicken, pot roast, meatloaf and all the fixings.

It was perfect---we ended the meal with the Traditional Warm Apple Crisp A la Mode and also Mom’s Brownie (not currently offered)! We did NOT get in trouble...as we were well behaved with the exception that the kids nearly licked the dessert plates clean!

Gaston's Tavern Giant Cinnamon Rolls

Cinnamon rolls are a must for me at Christmas and this is one of my favorite recipes for look-alike Gaston’s Tavern Giant Cinnamon Rolls! I found it on Inside the Magic , so all recipe credit belongs to them, but I have copied it below with some of my commentary and photos of my step by step process. Homemade cinnamon rolls are always going to be a bit time consuming, but these only have to proof for 40 minutes total so it’s really not bad at all! First things first, here are the materials you’re going to need: Mixer (one with a dough hook will make your life much much easier) and bowl Rubber scrapers Rolling pin 2-3 saucepans Microwave safe bowls An area big enough to roll them out 2 metal sheet pans with edges Measuring cups Measuring spoons Medium sized bowl for filling Liquid measuring cup The nice thing about the recipe is it uses pretty basic ingredients that you likely already have at your house. I went to Aldi and bought nearly everything just to see and it was about $20. A...
