Takumi-Tei

For the most up-to-date information about the phased reopening of the Walt Disney World Resort, please visit the  Walt Disney World Know Before You Go Guide.

As of the writing of this post Takumi-Tei is currently unavailable during the phased reopening of Walt Disney World Resort. The Walt Disney World Know Before You Go site is the best source of information for updates regarding resort and restaurant openings.

Takumi-Tei, which means “House of the Artisan,” is a Signature Dining Restaurant located in Epcot on the bottom level of the Japan pavilion’s main building. It’s overall theme is to celebrate the relationship between Japanese craftsmanship and the natural world. From the moment you arrive you are greeted warmly, educated about Japanese culture, and taken care of by friendly servers in traditional garments.

Upon entering, you will encounter several globes along the entrance hallway, each representing an element: water, earth, wood, paper, and stone. Guests can dine in one of five rooms, each designed with one of these elements in mind. A Chef’s Table dining experience is available in the restaurant’s Water Room (minimum six guests, maximum eight guests). Every area features beautiful, handcrafted works of art honoring each element.

There are three dining experiences to select from at Takumi-Tei. First, is the ala carte menu, which includes appetizers such as sushi rolls and entrees, which include meat, duck, or seafood. Appetizers are priced from $10 to $29 and the overall price range is from $42 to $120 per person.

The second experience is the Omakase, a seven course tasting menu of chef recommendations. This experience starts at $150 per person. If you would like wine and sake pairings, budget an additional $75 per person. This dining experience features a traditional tea ceremony featuring Matcha Green Tea prepared at the table.

The final dining option is the Kaiseki Chef’s Table, which is considered the ultimate dining experience. Kaiseki, or Kaiseki Ryori, is the Japanese equivalent of haute cuisine. This is a nine course dinner served in a private room for up to eight people. It’s priced at $180 per person and additional $100 for a 6 course wine and sake pairing. Each course is presented and explained by either the chef or fellow Cast Members serving your table. There are breaks between each course, so be prepared for your experience to last anywhere from 2 to 4 hours. Reservations for this dining experience can only be booked by contacting the restaurant directly.

Takumi-Tei is perfect for anyone looking for an upscale Japanese dining experience. However, be prepared for the high price tag that comes with it. Everything about this restaurant feels incredibly authentic. The servers are all incredibly knowledgeable and will help you with anything you want to know about Japanese food and culture, including the pronunciations of the menu items.

Takumi-Tei’s normal hours of operation are 4:00 PM – 9:00 PM, seven days a week. You will need a valid theme park admission to dine and reservations are highly recommended. Dining plans are not accepted.

Please note that information about this dining experience may change as Walt Disney World adjusts in-park experiences to comply with governmental directives.

Gaston's Tavern Giant Cinnamon Rolls

Cinnamon rolls are a must for me at Christmas and this is one of my favorite recipes for look-alike Gaston’s Tavern Giant Cinnamon Rolls! I found it on Inside the Magic , so all recipe credit belongs to them, but I have copied it below with some of my commentary and photos of my step by step process. Homemade cinnamon rolls are always going to be a bit time consuming, but these only have to proof for 40 minutes total so it’s really not bad at all! First things first, here are the materials you’re going to need: Mixer (one with a dough hook will make your life much much easier) and bowl Rubber scrapers Rolling pin 2-3 saucepans Microwave safe bowls An area big enough to roll them out 2 metal sheet pans with edges Measuring cups Measuring spoons Medium sized bowl for filling Liquid measuring cup The nice thing about the recipe is it uses pretty basic ingredients that you likely already have at your house. I went to Aldi and bought nearly everything just to see and it was about $20. A...
