Contemporary Resort

Updated 3/7/2022  Be sure to request a Resort Guide at the front desk so that you can have the most up-to-date information about resort happenings and schedules. For the most up-to-date information about the phased re-opening of the Walt Disney World Resort, please visit the Walt Disney World Know Before You Go Guide.

Retreat to this ultra-modern Disney Resort hotel and discover award-winning dining, spectacular views, and dazzling pools. Whether you’re staying in the iconic A-frame Contemporary tower or the nearby Garden Wing, you can walk to Magic Kingdom main gate or catch the Resort Monorail as it breezes through the tower. Inside, a 90-foot-tall mural by Disney Legend Mary Blair—responsible for the distinct look and feel of the “it’s a small world” attraction—celebrates the Grand Canyon and the American Southwest.

The resort is currently going through a refurbishment.  The lobby area has been completed, the tower rooms have been re-themed around The Incredibles, and the Garden Wing rooms are in the process of being updated.

Pools:
Cool off as you take your pick from 2 pools conveniently located along the shore of Bay Lake.
Glide down the 17-foot-high, curving water slide at the main pool, or relax in one of 2 whirlpool spas. Children can even make a splash in the water playground designed just for kids.  You can also escape to Bay Pool—the all-ages quiet pool that juts out over Bay Lake. If your kiddos haven’t already had enough fun, they can also play video games, pinball, and more at The Game Station. Lakeside Yoga is a great way to start your day. Contempo Cafe - Catch breakfast, lunch or dinner at this quick service location. Diners might catch a glimpse of the monorail gliding by overhead while enjoying their meal.

Contemporary Grounds - Jumpstart your day with some java and a pastry - or perhaps a smoothie - at this convenient coffee counter.

The Sand Bar - Plant yourself poolside after picking up something to munch on from the quick-service bar and lounge.

Cove Bar - Make the most of this private pool bar that offers a full menu of adult beverages.

Outer Rim - The perfect time to enjoy this lovely lounge is as the sun is setting over Bay Lake.

Gift Shops:
There are three shops on the 4th floor where you can find everything you need. Bayview Gifts offers men’s and women’s clothing, watches, unique souvenirs, and small decor for the home. The shop also carries necessities like sunscreen and beach wear. Fantasia is right next to Bayview Gifts and carries Disney-branded clothing for adults and kids and the types of souvenirs you’d find in the parks. Fantasia Market is the spot to visit for newspapers, magazines, over the counter medicines, beauty necessities, and snacks.

Cons:
  • If you are looking for a resort that is steeped in Disney theming, this might not be the spot for you.  While the rooms have been refurbished to feature characters from The Incredibles, the common areas are more modern.
  • The price tag of this resort can give a Guest sticker shock. The rooms that are offered at a lower price point are in the the Garden Wing and they are not conveniently located related to dining, the Monorail, lobby, etc.
  • The resort is located at the heart of the flow of Magic Kingdom traffic. You can almost always see/hear buses, boats, and monorails moving guests about the property.
Pros:
  • Proximity to Magic Kingdom is a huge benefit of this resort. If you are planning a trip with multiple days at Magic Kingdom, The Contemporary is a great choice.
  • All rooms offer a view of either Magic Kingdom or Bay Lake, and include a balcony on which you can enjoy the scenery.
  • Table service dining options are very good at The Contemporary.
  • At 437 square feet, the rooms are large by Disney standards and have lots of storage space.

Gaston's Tavern Giant Cinnamon Rolls

Cinnamon rolls are a must for me at Christmas and this is one of my favorite recipes for look-alike Gaston’s Tavern Giant Cinnamon Rolls! I found it on Inside the Magic , so all recipe credit belongs to them, but I have copied it below with some of my commentary and photos of my step by step process. Homemade cinnamon rolls are always going to be a bit time consuming, but these only have to proof for 40 minutes total so it’s really not bad at all! First things first, here are the materials you’re going to need: Mixer (one with a dough hook will make your life much much easier) and bowl Rubber scrapers Rolling pin 2-3 saucepans Microwave safe bowls An area big enough to roll them out 2 metal sheet pans with edges Measuring cups Measuring spoons Medium sized bowl for filling Liquid measuring cup The nice thing about the recipe is it uses pretty basic ingredients that you likely already have at your house. I went to Aldi and bought nearly everything just to see and it was about $20. A...
