Top Do's and Don'ts for Castaway Cay

January is here and it has me dreaming of a sandy beach with warm water! Sounds like a Disney Cruise is the perfect cure! One of the best parts of a Disney Cruise sailing out of Texas or Florida, is a stop at Castaway Cay, Disney’s private island. On our first Disney Cruise, we were blown away with all that there was to do on the island. It can be overwhelming trying to decide what to hit and what to miss. Today I’m highlighting my top 5 do’s and don’ts to making the most of your visit at Castaway Cay!

DO: Cross a 5K off of your bucket list!
Whether you’re an avid runner or just want to cross this off your bucket list, The Castaway Cay 5k is the perfect way to start your day on the island. This race is free to all cruisers and allows you a chance to be first off the boat. Whether you run, walk, skip or hop it’s a great way to see the island. There is no pressure...just lots of happy faces cheering you on. And everyone gets a medal! Win. Win.

DON’T: Forget Sunscreen.
The sun is intense, even in the morning hours. Make sure you bring your sunscreen off the boat. If not, you can pick some up at the cute shop on the island “She Sells Sea Shells...and Everything Else”

DO: Hit the Family Beach.
If you’re traveling with kids, make sure to grab a chair and umbrella by the family beach. These are a hot commodity, so grab one early. Just offshore you will see the 2,400 square foot floating playground, Pelican Plunge. With 2 waterslides, climbing courses and an enormous bucket that drops loads of water when you’re least expecting it - it provides hours of entertainment!

DON’T: Pay for Bottled Water.
If you’re thirsty, fill up your water bottle or grab a cup of cold filtered water for free!

DO: Hit the Island Post Office for a truly unique souvenir!
Before you leave the ship, grab the two complimentary postcards in the desk. Take a few dollars for stamps and send them off at the post office. We loved getting the mail after we were home and finding a postcard with the official Castaway Cay postmark! A fantastic souvenir!

DON’T: Forget your dollar bills!
The Post Office only accepts cash, so don’t forget it!

DO: Check out some of the excursions on the island. From sting rays to glass bottom boats, there are so many fun things to do. I HIGHLY recommend the 3 in 1 Castaway Cay Getaway Package. Snorkel set, bike rental and inner tube are all included and worth the $40 excursion fee. We loved taking the bikes out to explore the island when we needed a break from the water!

Speaking of water…
DON’T: miss out on the snorkeling at Castaway Cay! It was a highlight of our time there. In addition to the fish you’ll come across a sunken ship and other Disney surprises! We even came upon two sea turtles while we were there! MAGICAL!

DO: Make time to relax! You could tire yourself out trying to fit everything in! Pick a couple that you and your family will appreciate and then take some time to unwind island style!

DON’T forget the character meet and greets on the island! Smaller lines and characters in their island wear? Yes please!! Worth taking a few minutes to get a picture with your favorite character!

Most of all, enjoy your time on this special island. It truly feels like a hidden paradise...we could have stayed there all week and were sad to get back on the boat! Enjoy every minute! Let me know below what your favorite part of Castaway Cay is! I’d love to hear it!

Gaston's Tavern Giant Cinnamon Rolls

Cinnamon rolls are a must for me at Christmas and this is one of my favorite recipes for look-alike Gaston’s Tavern Giant Cinnamon Rolls! I found it on Inside the Magic , so all recipe credit belongs to them, but I have copied it below with some of my commentary and photos of my step by step process. Homemade cinnamon rolls are always going to be a bit time consuming, but these only have to proof for 40 minutes total so it’s really not bad at all! First things first, here are the materials you’re going to need: Mixer (one with a dough hook will make your life much much easier) and bowl Rubber scrapers Rolling pin 2-3 saucepans Microwave safe bowls An area big enough to roll them out 2 metal sheet pans with edges Measuring cups Measuring spoons Medium sized bowl for filling Liquid measuring cup The nice thing about the recipe is it uses pretty basic ingredients that you likely already have at your house. I went to Aldi and bought nearly everything just to see and it was about $20. A...
