Spring Break is the one time of year when it seems almost everyone gets some time off to go on vacation. Kids have the week off of school and most people have some saved up vacation. So how do you decide where to take your family trip?
Spring Break can have a reputation for a “party vacation” and maybe that’s for you, but when you have younger kids in tow, it’s probably not the ideal. That’s what makes Orlando such a great choice for many families! You get the sun and fun you might get in Cancun, but with a little less party.
One of the best reasons to visit Orlando during Spring Break is the annual Flower and Garden Festival at Epcot. This year, it spanned from February 28 through May 28, so no matter when your spring break is, you’ll be able to catch this wonderful festival. Not only are there beautiful topiaries and gardens throughout Epcot, there are also bonus food and drink kiosks! The festival also features the Garden Rocks Concert Series. Past acts have included Survivor, Rick Springfield, Village People, and many more. So if you need a little party in your family vacation, you can eat and drink around the World Showcase Lagoon and enjoy the sights, sips, sounds, and snacks!
Universal Orlando also celebrates Mardi Gras during this time! Head across town to celebrate Florida’s Biggest Party and enjoy nightly parades, street performers, and - of course - beads! You’ll hear authentic New Orleans bands and enjoy some of the best Cajun food. Not to mention, on select nights you can hear some of the biggest names in music! Past acts have included The Beach Boys, Macklemore, Fifth Harmony, Jessie J, and many more. Last year, this festival ran from February 3 through April 7, so you’ll be sure to catch it on your spring break trip.

If SeaWorld is more your speed, they will also be celebrating their Seven Seas Food Festival during this time! Last year, they celebrated on weekends February 17 through April 15. At this festival, you can enjoy unique street food and drinks from around the world. You can even enjoy local craft beers while you explore the culinary marketplaces throughout the park. Plus, each Saturday and Sunday there are live performances from some of the top country, rock, and Latin music artists! Past acts have included Larry the Cable Guy, Lifehouse, Daughtry, Hanson, and more!

Spring is also a great time to visit Florida in general. The weather is typically pretty mild. You’ll find the heat of the day will be in the upper 70s and as it cools at night, you might need a sweatshirt. In typical Disney World fashion, it’s likely you’ll catch a mid-afternoon shower, but as long as you have your ponchos along, you should be able to keep right on moving!
If you want to mix it up a little bit and take a break from the parks, this is also Spring Training time for the Atlanta Braves. This is one of their last years at Disney’s Wide World of Sports, so it’s a prime time to go catch a ball game and enjoy the Florida sun. Visit the Wide World of Sports website to check out their training schedule for the year as we get closer to Spring. Maybe you’ll catch your favorite team in action!
This is also a pretty great time to visit in terms of crowds. In Iowa, our Spring Break is usually about the third week of March, which is only a moderate time for the Parks because many other states don’t have their Spring Break until later in April. This is a perk for you, because it means tickets are at the value or regular price for the majority of your trip rather than peak price. It can also be a real treat to spend St. Patrick’s Day at Epcot!
