Wilderness Lodge Resort

Updated 4/21/2022 Be sure to request a Resort Guide at the front desk so that you can have the most up-to-date information about resort happenings and schedules. For the most up-to-date information about the phased re-opening of the Walt Disney World Resort, please visit the Walt Disney World Know Before You Go Guide.

Nature lovers need to look no further than Disney’s Wilderness Lodge as their home away from home. You’ll feel relaxed the minute you walk into this resort’s grand 7-story lobby, which includes an 82-foot fireplace that duplicates the layers of the Grand Canyon. The atmosphere of the Wilderness Lodge gives guests the feeling that they are far away from the parks, yet it’s only minutes from Magic Kingdom – close enough that you can catch a glimpse of the fireworks from the resort! Wilderness Lodge is suitable for groups of all sizes as it has a wide-range of accommodations…read on to see if this is the resort for you!

Resort type: Deluxe
Location: Magic Kingdom area

*All accommodations allow for one child under age 3 in a pack & play

Accommodations -
Standard room (also available with Club Level access): sleeps up to 4 adults - 2 queen beds or 1 king bed.  Please note that the resort no longer offers rooms with bunkbeds.

Deluxe room (only available with Club Level access) sleeps up to 6 guests (2 queen beds & 1 queen sleeper sofa)

If you are looking for villa accommodations, Boulder Ridge and Copper Creek offer deluxe studios that sleep up to 5 guests; one, two and three bedroom villas; and cabins located along the waterfront.

Transportation -
Disney's Magical Express has retired - and is NO longer offered by Disney to and from Orlando International Airport and Disney World Resorts. Your On The Road Travel specialist can advise you and assist you in the best plan for your transfers to and from the airport.

Park transportation is complimentary once onsite at Disney.
Magic Kingdom - Bus (10 minutes), boat (20 minutes, it also continues to Fort Wilderness Resort, as well as the Contemporary resort where you can jump on the Monorail)
Epcot - Bus (10 minutes)
Hollywood Studios - Bus (15 minutes)
Animal Kingdom - Bus (15 minutes)
Disney Springs - Bus (20 minutes)

Uber, Lyft, and Taxi are also available at a cost. The Minnie Van service is set to return in Summer 2022! Watch for more information on this option through the Lyft app. This service is stellar! It gets Disney's magical touches on getting you where you need to be and faster than most other options. (Subject to an added cost, that is designated through the Lyft app.) Note that Minnie Vans DO have the necessary seats for younger passengers.

If you are driving to Wilderness Lodge, a $25 per night parking fee will be charged to your room account.

Shopping -

Pros -
  • The location of Wilderness Lodge is prime. It’s just minutes from the Magic Kingdom and the monorail line.
  • This is a perfect location to spend time over HOLIDAYS! You won't likely miss the tree at home when you can enjoy this location and all it's holiday WONDER!
  • The rustic theming and calm environment with the fireplace and bubbling brook in the lobby - - you can’t help but feel relaxed.
  • There are 2 large pools, 1 with a slide, and a water play space for young children
  • There are so many activities to keep you busy at the resort. You’ll receive a calendar of scheduled activities for your stay but they frequently include pool parties, movies at night, and arts & crafts. A ping pong table, large connect 4 game, boat rentals, bike rentals, walking/jogging paths, and more are also available!
  • Magic Kingdom is so close, that those spending the evening at the resort can still enjoy Magic Kingdom's nightly fireworks show!
  • The Electrical Water Pageant goes past this resort, so you’re able to watch this fun nighttime water parade every evening from the dock and from MANY room balconies. Check the times guide for more information.
  • Wilderness Lodge offers laundry and dry cleaning so you'll always have clean clothes, whether you wash them yourself or let Disney take care of it.
  • A perk of all Disney resorts is merchandise delivery. You can send your park purchases to the resort for pick up later on.
  • Sturdy Branches fitness center and Salon by the Springs are available for guests' exercise and beauty needs.
Cons -
  • The elevators. There are only 2 elevators in the lobby, and they are fairly small, so you may find yourself waiting longer for an elevator at busy times of day. Another 2 elevators are located near Roaring Fork, but they are only convenient for guests staying on that side of the resort.
  • Some cabins require a bit of a walk to access dining, shopping, and transportation.
  • If there is bad weather or high winds, the water taxis may not operate.

This is my favorite resort for several reasons: atmosphere, location, and theming, to name a few…it’s truly hard for me to leave on my last day. Gaston's Tavern Giant Cinnamon Rolls

Cinnamon rolls are a must for me at Christmas and this is one of my favorite recipes for look-alike Gaston’s Tavern Giant Cinnamon Rolls! I found it on Inside the Magic , so all recipe credit belongs to them, but I have copied it below with some of my commentary and photos of my step by step process. Homemade cinnamon rolls are always going to be a bit time consuming, but these only have to proof for 40 minutes total so it’s really not bad at all! First things first, here are the materials you’re going to need: Mixer (one with a dough hook will make your life much much easier) and bowl Rubber scrapers Rolling pin 2-3 saucepans Microwave safe bowls An area big enough to roll them out 2 metal sheet pans with edges Measuring cups Measuring spoons Medium sized bowl for filling Liquid measuring cup The nice thing about the recipe is it uses pretty basic ingredients that you likely already have at your house. I went to Aldi and bought nearly everything just to see and it was about $20. A...
