Disney Dining Plans 101

One of the most confusing parts of Disney Vacations for our clients are the dining plans. What are they? What do they include? How do they work? Is it like being at an all-inclusive resort and I can eat what I want, when I want? Do I get credits for every day I’m there? Do I have to use 1 of each credit type per day? How am I going to know how many credits I’ve used and how many are left?

When you travel to Disney with a dining plan---it allows you to feel as if your vacation is similar to an all inclusive experience. The majority of your food is already paid when you add a dining plan to your room and ticket package--it is a great way to “budget” knowing that your food spending is under control.

When you arrive to the hotels and parks you can use your magic band to use your entitlements of the dining plan. Those credits are in a bank of sorts! Each receipt will tell you how many credits you have left!

In order to have the dining plan, you must be an on site Disney guest. Everyone on the same hotel reservation must choose to have or not have the dining plan. Dining plans are for the WHOLE length of stay or none of the stay. It is an all or nothing sort of plan. However, you get to choose which plan is best for your group.

The three most chosen dining plans, are described below:
Dining credits are allocated per paying guest, based on the number of nights of your package.

Quick-Service Plan
2 quick-service meals
2 snacks
1 resort (hotel) refillable mug

Disney Dining Plan
1 quick-service meal
1 table-service meal
2 snacks
1 resort (hotel) refillable mug
Gratuities not included

Deluxe Dining Plan
3 meals (quick or table-service)
2 snacks
1 resort (hotel) refillable mug
Gratuities not included

New for 2018 vacation packages!
Guests have several new beverage options available including non-alcoholic specialty beverages and for Guests 21 and older~beer, wine and cocktails can be chosen with dining plan meals, if available at that location.

To learn more about what exactly is included in a given meal entitlement, check out this post!

Let’s say you are a family of 4--- staying 5 nights at a Disney Resort with the Disney Dining Plan. For a 5 night stay, each guest would have entitlements for 5 quick-service meals, 5 table-service meals, and 5 snacks. For the whole family, that would be 20 quick-service meals, 20 table-service meals, and 20 snacks.

Here we are at Disney's Hollywood Studios at the Sci Fi Dine In, using our dining table service credits! See how you sit to eat---This car was our table, and we did not face each other! Note: Our child, under 3, ate for NO cost off our plates

Your dining credits are good from the time you check in at your resort until midnight on the day you depart. Think of it kind of like a meal plan in college! To learn more about what’s included in each meal/snack credit and where to use them, check out this post!

You can even share them with other people that are NOT listed on your room. Let’s say your uncle from Florida meets you for a meal---You can use one of your dining credits to pay for his meal.

Disney looks at your dining entitlements as a cumulative total per package and allows you to choose how and when you use your credits. They don’t expire on a per day basis.

If you want to use all your quick-service credits in one day – that’s fine. If you choose to dine at a Signature Restaurant that requires 2 credits per person, that’s up to you.

Disney allows you, the guest, the choice to use your credits for breakfast, lunch, or dinner.

A common misconception is that the meal credits are only good at lunch and dinner – that’s just not true. You can use them for any meal you would like…and as many meals a day as you would prefer…until the credits are GONE!

A fan favorite and must have each trip! - for a snack credit!

When you run out of credits, then you begin paying out of pocket for meals and snacks.
On the flip side – be sure NOT to leave credits on the table. We have been known to raid the Main Street Confectionary on the last day in the park and grab as many Mickey Rice Krispie Treats as we have snack credits left.

When making dining reservations, your On The Road Travel Agent can help you determine how to schedule your dining so that you optimize your use of the dining credits.

The best bang for your buck is to dine with your credits at dinner, as that meal is more costly out of pocket. However, time is money, and at Disney you’ll want to dine where you will use your time most wisely! For many, that is meeting characters first thing in the morning at breakfast while Little Mousketeer Travelers are FRESH for photos and for interactions of a lifetime with Disney friends! Get out those cameras!

What fun we have had at Chef Mickey's using our dining plan! When paying out of pocket, a dinner at Chef Mickey's is nearly as costly as 1 WHOLE day's cost on the dining plan! A dining plan CAN save you money!

Gaston's Tavern Giant Cinnamon Rolls

Cinnamon rolls are a must for me at Christmas and this is one of my favorite recipes for look-alike Gaston’s Tavern Giant Cinnamon Rolls! I found it on Inside the Magic , so all recipe credit belongs to them, but I have copied it below with some of my commentary and photos of my step by step process. Homemade cinnamon rolls are always going to be a bit time consuming, but these only have to proof for 40 minutes total so it’s really not bad at all! First things first, here are the materials you’re going to need: Mixer (one with a dough hook will make your life much much easier) and bowl Rubber scrapers Rolling pin 2-3 saucepans Microwave safe bowls An area big enough to roll them out 2 metal sheet pans with edges Measuring cups Measuring spoons Medium sized bowl for filling Liquid measuring cup The nice thing about the recipe is it uses pretty basic ingredients that you likely already have at your house. I went to Aldi and bought nearly everything just to see and it was about $20. And o
